The Fisherman

28th January 2018

9.30am start

A 36 miles cycle ride to be completed within 4 hrs.

Total height climbed 401m (1316ft)

This is the shortest reliability trial that we are running on this day and is much easier as well as shorter than the other rides.

The ride leaves the HQ on the northern edge of Leicester and within a few miles you are in the lanes. The route follows the Wreake Valley in a north easterly direction and thus is flat until the village of Asfordby. Here you leave the valley floor and enjoy a gentle climb up onto higher ground at Ab Kettleby. A flat section then takes you to the Fishing Lakes Cafe (hence the name of the ride).

After your optional stop you retrace to Ab Kettleby but take a different, steeper descent back down to the valley at Asfordby. From there you retrace the outward route back to the HQ.

There are some busier sections of road for a few miles that cannot be avoided, but cycle paths are available beside most of them.

The first 4 miles of the outward route is the same as that used for the "50 miles Sore Legs" that starts at the same time. Make sure you do not blindly follow someone who may be doing the longer ride! Take care to read the route sheet and you will have no problem.

This is in large print and can be folded to A6 size for ease of reading on the bike. See sketch on the Crippler page.     Copies will also be available at the HQ.

You are advised to print out a copy of this map and take it with you unless you are familiar with the area.
